American change for sale is nothing new.
GREEDY LITTLE HUSTLERS
(stopping change)
This country could have been on its way,prosperity for everyone.The American dream was sold for pre fab housing,corporate corruption,and a defense budget to level the world,in case any bastard wanted to make us quiver.America the land that should have been that still has the potential to be.America stands towering over the world strong and leading the way with a spirit of freedom,a foundation that the wrath of god would have trouble dismantling with a jack hammer.Every 20 years or so a wind of change blows in and we rise to the occasion,every time pulling away when the flames rise.Americans you love the idea of change but fear the repercussions,and instead leave the work half assed,incomplete,allowing politicians to use incompetence as an excuse.America I’m an American and I’m tired of watching the tide pull back.In this article I will cover 2 crucial turning points in American history that have come and gone.Franklin Roosevelt and his second bill of economic rights,the difference in our country if these rights had been given in 1944 It is my belief we’d be closer to that great monument of the American dream.Were also going to take a look at Jimmy Carter and his message of our dangerous consumption,energy dependence,bowing to O.P.E.C’s oil hikes.President Carters Plan for energy independence,and a long term solution.
On January 11, 1944 President Franklin Roosevelt gave a State of the Union Address.When WWII’s gasoline fueled politics finally exploded,an a clear vision of victory over Germany was in our sights.The country was in a mode of change and Americans were looking for security in a life of labor,and broken backs.President Roosevelt wanted to give us these things,and he also wanted to build an America for the serving men and women to come home to,a home to hang there hats and raise a family.Our Presidents plan was clear and meant security in life like never before,Roosevelt was proposing a new bill of economic rights.
“In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all regardless of station, race, or creed.”-Franklin Roosevelt-State of The Union Address
Among these are:
#to a useful and remunerative job in the nation’s mines, industries, farms, and shops;
# to earn enough to provide adequate food, clothing, and recreation;
# of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return that will give him and his family a decent living;
# of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or a broad;
# of every family to a decent home;
# to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
# to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemploymeant;
# to a good education.
“Our fighting men abroad- and their families at home- expect such a program and have the right to insist upon it. It is to their demands that this Government should pay heed rather than to the whining demands of selfish pressure groups who seek to feather their nests while young Americans are dying.”-Franklin Roosevelt-State of The Union Address
So what happened to these rights.Why 65 years later are we still fighting for many of these rights to be enacted.This is a result of lobbying special interest groups paying for congressional votes,dirty politics,that not only still go on but the stench is so fowl i cant enter D.C.Pockets are lined at the expense of the American people.Knowing history I can see the wrong path taken and the bloody disputes are nation has had to conquer as a result.I don’t question the resolve of the American people,pushed to near breaking point over civil rights,water gate,Vietnam,a general distrust for the government,as a whole we have maintained our nation as a people and deserve these rights.Would this Bill of Rights have solved everything no,Vietnam would have still been there.Civil Rights I believe would have been eased if not already mandated by the 1960’s with these laws applying to every American,and the American people having to face there racism much earlier in our history.Health care and housing as rights that’s something beautiful when the system is still democracy running the show.I could write all day on the individual changes these laws would have meant for our nation,you’ve read them and understand that farmers making a profitable return to take care of there family’s is fair and morally just.Do you oppose to make enough money to maintain a standard of living to feed your family,to afford recreation,and to not have a worry what are you going to do when your to old to work.An America that passes laws like this is the America my high school propaganda taught me already existed a utopia.
“America’s own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for our citizens”-Franklin Roosevelt State of The Union 1944
“We have come to a clear realization of the fact that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence.”Necessitous men are not free men.People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.”-Franklin Roosevelt-State of The Union Address 1944
On July 15, 1979 Jimmy Carter gave an urgent speech to the American public that has become famously known as “Crisis of Confidence-”President Carter addressed the people with a grim message of the broken state America in suffering from oil shortages,7% unemployment,economic recession.-”The erosion of our confidence in the future is threatening to destroy the social and the political fabric of America.”President Carter-Crisis of Confidence-The American dream was dying from foreign oil prices spiking at the whim of O.p.E.C,American auto makers were seeing competition for the first time since WWII,and a consumption problem forcing us to rely more and more on foreign nations.-”Too many of us now tend to worship self-indulgence and consumption.Human identity is no longer defined by what one does, but by what one owns. But we’ve discovered that owning things and consuming things does not satisfy our longing for meaning”-President Carter-Crisis of Confidence-.America was on a downward spiral and President Carter was grabbing at the foundation of a great nation trying to re instill the values of our founding fathers-”The confidence that we have always had as a people is not simply some romantic dream or a proverb in a dusty book that we read just on the Fourth of July”-President Carter-Crisis of Confidence-President Carter was seeking energy independence something you hear more and more about every election season,President Carter started small with family’s asking them to stop wasting power and gasoline.The Energy plan President Carter proposed stated these details.legislation to Congress calling for the creation of this nation’s first solar bank which would help us achieve a goal of 20 percent of our energy coming from solar power by the year 2000,obviously that must have ended up in Regan’s garbage can .President Carter also submitted legislation To give us energy security,he asked for the most massive peacetime commitment of funds and resources in our nation’s history to develop America’s own alternative sources of fuel,also in an effort to replace 2-1/2 million barrels of imported oil per day by 1990,and five billion in bonds especially in small denominations so that average Americans could invest directly in America’s energy security just as they had done to pay for WWII.I guess Americans don’t care for much of anything,except complaining about the bad politicians they elected.As you look back at past elections you notice a trend of change and then the recoil,real change is forgotten like some penny buried deep in a couch until your broke.America the land that almost was.
“This is not a message of happiness or reassurance, but it is the truth and it is a warning.What you see too often in Washington and elsewhere around the country is a system of government that seems incapable of action. You see a Congress twisted and pulled in every direction by hundreds of well-financed and powerful special interests.You see every extreme position defended to the last vote,almost to the last breath by one unyielding group or another.You often see a balanced and a fair approach that demands sacrifice, a little sacrifice from everyone,abandoned like an orphan without support and without friends.I will do my best,but I will not do it alone. Let your voice be heard we cannot fail.Thank you and good night.”-President Carter-Crisis of Confidence
