A few inspirational and moving quotes from TV and movies.
Every movie and TV show seems to have that one moment when one of the characters says something that sends chills down your spine. It’s inspirational, rallying; it makes you stand up and cheer for the heroes even if you’ve watched the clip a hundred times. So, here’s a list of some of the best ones I’ve seen, in no particular order.
“So say we all!” – Battlestar Galactica repeated line
This is the rallying cry of the Colonists from Battlestar Galactica. It’s chanted in the times of greatest despair and it resounds after their most decisive victories. It’s one of those lines that makes you wish you were there, and you can even find yourself chanting the cry right along with Admiral Adama and the rest of the Fleet. Plus, it’s one of the rare “good guy” chants and rally cries.
“Whatever you choose, General, we’re behind you. Just say the word and we’re ready to go.” – Colonel Reynolds, Stargate: SG-1
Just after Jack O’Neill is newly placed in command of the Stargate Command facility, things begin to go wrong. Visiting diplomats argue and threaten each other, a captive Goa’uld tries to trick the Tau’ri into destroying themselves, and the rest of SG-1 under Colonel Carter is captured by Ba’al.
As O’Neill sits at his desk, visibly distraught, he is summoned to the gate room to meet with Colonel Reynolds. There waiting for him is the entire force of Stargate Command’s offworld teams. Engineering, recon, Marine fire support, every soldier and airman is there in full combat gear, ready for whatever is coming. Reynolds steps forward and gives the above line, declaring that they are all ready to race through the gate and challenge Ba’al himself if O’Neill demands it. This show of devotion finally gives O’Neill the hope he needs to make it through.
“May the Force be with you.” – Star Wars repeated line
Another of the rare “good guy” rallying cries, this is the most famous line in Star Wars. It’s a blessing, a farewell, and an offer of hope in the darkness. The Force is the Jedi’s strength, and this line repeats their desire for the Force to follow their brothers wherever they are sent.
“Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!” – The President, Independence Day
As his climatic speech comes to a close, the American President shouts this line to his assemble pilots. Many are recent recruits who may or may not have ever seen combat before. Many know they will not return, and most are scared. They are preparing to fight an enemy that has wiped out entire cities and slaughtered the previous attempts to counterattack.
