Movies. We all love them and watch our favourite ones over and over until we could practically recite the script from memory. Movies are very important to our generation, allowing us to feel emotions (excitement, fear, compassion, empathy, respect…) much in the same way a person may when they went to see Shakespeare’s latest play. Here’s a list of 10 of the most iconic quotations from films of all genres and tastes in no particular order and where possible, I’ve embedded the YouTube clip of the line being said:

Movie: Scarface

Quote: “Say hello to my li’l friend!” – Tony Montana

Clip:

This was uttered in during one of the most well-known and loved fight scenes at the end of Scarface. The way this sticks in the mind is for a number of reasons, chiefly the context within which it was said and what happened directly after it. His accent doesn’t hurt in making it a great quote, either.

Movie: Mrs Doubtfire

Quote: [Pointing to Pierce Brosnan’s character’s sculpted physique] “Look Nattie! That’s called ‘liposuction’” – Mrs Doubtfire

With the minor exception of 60 minute photo, anything Robin Williams seems to touch is pure gold and I can’t imagine Mrs Doubtfire being anyone but him. This quote comes from Daniel, the separated father, dressed up as his own children’s nanny is poking holes at his wife’s new partner. The satirical manner in which this is spoken is deliciously brilliant. Added to the fact that this is practically an aside given almost no follow-up reaction, leaving it as a standalone comment to chew on and the fact he said this to a five-year-old, it becomes pure cinema gold.
