No heavens please.

Every writer’s task
is to turn words
into something useful.
not into heaven
because it’s for the dead
but into something worthy to the living
like happiness and sadness,
like peace and war,
like love and hate
and anything which would make the living
feel they are alive.

    Richie, I like the ideas in this poem, though I disagree with the premise that there is no life after death (or that people in heaven are dead). But I love the point that many in this life walk around as if they are dead, and we have the power of the word to give them meaning. Great thoughts!!

    I also disagree with heaven being for the dead but I can appreciate the concept. Very well written. I love the ideas.

    I believe I know what you are trying to say. Although Heaven isn’t thought of as for the dead by many, you are really saying that while alive as mortal beings, we should say things that are useful in this stage of our existence… Good thought.

    @Lauren, @Liane @Jo, thank you very much.

    @Brian and @Westbrook, writers have a powerful gift that can make life more worth living. The most special thing that writers can give its readers is hope.
