This is intended to be one of a series of articles about dogs. I began with the Collie because I have one (among others).
wgr Your a collie, I have to ask, do you still get that Lassie thing?
Collie My grandfather told me he use to get that all the time. That and something about someone named Timmy and a well. He said it drove him crazy.
wgr Why would that bother him?
Collie How would you like it if alls dogs called you Adam?
wgr Good point! Moving right along, I’ve heard there are both smooth and rough collies.
Collie Yes rough collies, like myself, have long hair while smooth collies have short hair.
wgr Besides hair length, is there really a difference?
Collie Yes, rough collies were bred in the Scottish Highlands to herd sheep. Smooth collies were bred as herders and drivers of cattle.
wgr I’ve noticed various colorings among collies.
Collie True, we collies are born in one of three colors, sable, tri-color, blue merle or white.
wgr I’ve also heard that collies are a gentle breed.
Collie Collies are, in fact, a gentle breed, We are good with children and can be protective of them.
wgr I saw what appeared to be a toy collie the other day.
Collie No, there are no toy or miniature collies. What you saw was a shelyie, a distant and unrelated breed.
wgr Well, this has been an interesting and informative conversation. I have one last question.
Collie What’s that?
wgr Are you sad?
Collie Sad? No.
wgr Then why the long face?
Collie Listen Adam, I told you we are a gentle breed, but I could make an exception in your case.
