This skit hopefully will create an image of what emotional about will feel like or sound like.

Chelsea: I never knew that. I thought you parents were OK.

Jen: I know. That’s what they want all my friends to think

Larry: I still don’t understand

Jen: Okay let’s take an example. We have a disagreement Maybe I want to go out, and my mom decides I’ve been going out to much. I should study or do my chores. I try to explain my side of it. And my Mom will hardly let me talk. She started screaming about how terrible I am., and then my Dad joins in. they really come down hard. They brow beat me, you know?

Chelsea: My parents try to explain everything rationally and never get mad if I don’t understand.

Jen: It’s not like that with my mom and dad. It’s like they won’t stop till I admit they’re right.

Larry: so what do you do?

Jen: I use to be really stubborn about it. I keep on arguing. But the more I argued, the worse they got. Once dad trashed my room. Just because I forgot to take out the garbage.

Kenny: he tore your room apart?

Jen: Not at first. I told him I’d take out the trash, and he asked when. “I will,” I said. “I told you I would.” “Then do it,” he told me. I said, “as soon as this show is over, all right?” Well, we kept on arguing, and then mom got in on it. It ended up with Dad’s trash of everything I owned.

Larry: He actually trashed your stuff?

Jen: it was like he went completely nuts. He knocked over my bookcase, threw my radio into the wall. All kinds of stuff.

Chelsea: I can’t believe it’s your father we’re talking about.

Jen: But you know what? I learned that if I just say, “OK, you’re right. I’ll do whatever you want,” there’s never any arguing.

Chelsea: But didn’t you ever try talking to them about it?

Jen: Are you kidding?

Kenny: That wouldn’t work, huh?

Jen: you’d better believe it.

Chelsea: There must be something you can do.

Josh: Yeah, sure. But what?

Q and A

1. What things other than environment make people who they are?

Some things other than environment make people who they are, are things like motions, actions, feelings, and personality.

2. List some steps Josh could use to communicate better with his parents.

Some steps Josh could use to communicate better with his parents are approaching his parents by talking about the issue, talk to guidance councilor, relatives like parents grand mother etc., people who have gone through the same experience.

3. Were Laura Chad and Tina to forceful in trying to get josh to talk about his problems? Why or why not?

Yes, Laura Chad and Tina to forceful in trying to get josh to talk about his problems because maybe Josh was a bit shy towards talking with his friends therefore not giving all the specific details. In that case, his friends did not know the actual situation josh was in.

4.dicuss Josh’s father’s action in destroying josh’s room, why do you think he reacted in such a violent way?

Unless Josh has committed something very serious, I think that the father should have not reacted that way by tearing Josh’s room apart. The reason why I say this is because Josh is at his beginning teen therefore just being welcomed into the new world of teenagers. Though Josh is older, he should not be verbally and emotionally abused. If he is abused for a small problem, that can be salved simply, he can become used to this and may grow up being somebody who treats other the way he was treated. All this is written only on the information given therefore may be inaccurate of the actual situation.

5. How do you think josh will treat his own children later on?

The way Josh teats his own children is all up to Josh. If he continues to be emotionally abused without any help from anybody, the chances of treating his children the way he was treated in his childhood are very high. If Josh decides to find something that can prevent his depression or emotions becoming hurt, there is a high chance that Josh would treat his children differently.
