Jonny: Hello and welcome back to Century FM. Tonight, we have a very special guest. He is a survivor from the Second World War and he is here to tell us all about his experiences, so let me introduce you to Sergeant Tommy Powell.
Luke: (Old Voice) Oh, the war. I don’t really like to talk about it much. It’s not fun watching your mates getting blown to pieces, you know. But, if you wanna talk about it… PAIN! That’s what I had for 6 bloody years. Innocent people getting killed all because of those Germans. If I could get my hands on those little…
Jonny: (Interrupting) Right, that’s enough about that. Tell me, what can you remember about your fellow soldiers?
Luke: My brain isn’t what it used to be, so most of it’s a blur, but I remember one thing; we’d just landed on Sword Beach on D-Day. I was heading up the beach, me and the other lads, but we didn’t notice one of those damned little Germans hiding in a machine gun nest. I remember seeing a bomb whizzing through the air. It was at some speed, I tell you!
Anyway, Johnny… Johnny…. Johnny… Johnny Winters! That’s it! He was just behind me and the bomb exploded in front of him. It blew his eyeball right out. I thought to myself “I thought he was supposed to keep an eye of for me!” (Minor applause.) Just a little one of my jokes, that. Here’s another one… (Speech is cut short.)
Jonny: (Sarcastically) Oh, would you look at that? I don’t think we have enough time, what a shame! (Luke looks grumpy)
