A young Italian girl survives the horrors of war to marry, love, live, and become a modern woman.
The conquerors of Rome!
That’s right. You boys remember this moment, because people’ll be talking and writing about it for decades to come. June Fifth, 1944, the day an Axis capital fell.
Y’all can sign autographs when you get home. Now, let’s get our job done.
Ahh… Sarge, can we really do this? Search the Vatican! Isn’t that… like, a sin, or something?
We’re just searching for troops, boys. The way I hear it, the Pope’s been playing footsies with the Nazi.
You can’t be serious.
Well, it was because they’re anti-communist. So, just treat the staff with respect and don’t touch anything you don’t have to, and we’ll be fine.
You don’t suppose… he’s in there?
Robbie steps up to the door.
Let’s find out, shall we?
INT. ATRIUM OF ST. PETER’S BASILICA – DAY
The beautiful entryway to the Vatican Church.
A NUN (40), stands behind a counter near the door.
Robbie, Kane and their men enter and scan the area.
The Nun cowers and starts to raise her hands. Robbie signals the men to lower their weapons and steps up to the counter. The Nun only speaks Italian.
Take off your helmets, men. (Not have fear. We American. We need search for Germans. Not harming you.)
(I understand, but you must check your weapons here.)
I think she says we can go in, but we have to leave our weapons here.
What? No way! Is she kidding?
Who’s she, the coat check lady?
Maybe. But, I don’t think we’ll have to tip her.
Oh, ha-ha, Robbie. Come on, we’re not going to do it, are we?
I think we’d better, and I also think it’s okay. I don’t see the Krauts leaving a nun on guard. Come on, pass ‘em over.
Well, then why do we need to search?
Kane, we’ve got our orders.
The men reluctantly line up and hand their rifles to the Nun. She stacks them in the slots intended for umbrellas.
Robbie leads them inside.
INT. ST. PETER’S BASILICA – DAY
The magnificent Vatican Church.
Robbie, Kane and their men cautiously enter and look about. Slowly, they search the area. Several men genuflect before the altar.
