IVAN Hey there Disco Taylor!
TAYLOR Gee Wiz! Hey Casanova Ivan!
IVAN Have you heard of the new FM radio frequency that’s ‘hit the waves’
TAYLOR Yes I have, what do you think of it?
IVAN This FM radio’s got a higher quality broadcast than the AM radio and it’s created more room for radio stations on the airwaves.
TAYLOR Yeah, lately I’ve been tuning into this new FM radio thing and I’ve been hearing all these random languages being spoken from it on the SBS (Special Broadcasting Service) station. Stuff like Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, Italian been aired lately. As hard as it is to understand, I think it’s pretty good that their airing these things, as it’s allowing our diverse multicultural Australian society to be fostered and celebrated, especially since the White Australia Policies’ been abolished.
IVAN Yeah, that’s so true. Since that law’s been taken out, I’ve noticed tens of thousands of people from Asia and the Middle East pouring into Australia, not that that’s a bad thing of course. Lots of Vietnamese refugees too from the recent Vietnam War have also been coming in too. It’s good though, we get a lot of food, distinct languages, new religions, traditions, a new level of equality and of course…music to add to our country!
