A weekend gathering with friends turns deadly when lines get crossed and firearms get pulled.

(Forty- Five)

It was a bright sunny day in The Heights. The grass grew lush and green in all of the lawns. Everyone was care free and happy. They all worried only for themselves here in their suburban paradise. They knew nothing of consequence or backlashes for their actions. For one of these lucky suburbanites that lesson will be learned. Unfortunately, he will have to learn it the hard way.

The room is somewhat dark, lit only by the sunlight coming in from the two small windows on the walls. The areas of yellow warmth moved across the floor and opposite of the walls of the room as the sun moved across the sky. The beams seemed to lurch up the surfaces of the furniture and everything else in the room. It was the same for the two bodies who lay in the bed. Two figures were sleeping, embracing one another as the sunlight hit them. Though it stirred them, they did not awake. Finally, the alarm, which was set for 12 noon Friday, woke them.

Justin and Erikke emerged from under the covers, nude as Adam and Eve before they fell from grace. The two had made love passionately the night before and Erikke had spent the night. Justin pulled a pair of boxers out of his dresser and put them on. He put on some shorts and handed Erikke her shirt. The two got fully dressed in about 10 minutes. When they had finished they went downstairs, where Justin had some of his clothes packed and some pillows.

“Where did you say you were going again?” Erikke inquired as she held Justin’s hand.

“I’m going to my friend Amanda’s house for the weekend,” Justin answered cracking his knuckles. “Shannon, Emma, Dave, and Brian should be here to pick me up in a little bit.”

“Oh, now I remember. I hope you have fun.”

“Me too. I’ll miss you, girl.”

“I’ll miss you too, Justin. I guess I’ll go now.”

“Wait I just want to ask you something first.”

“What is it Justin?”

“Is this friendship thing working out to your satisfaction?”

“Well, I must admit it’s not what I had expected. I love spending time with you and going to your games. The sex is great. The only thing is I thought you and your girlfriend would be broken up when we did all this.”

“You just let me worry about her, okay.”
