Yes Glynis, I’m up for the challenge! A cure (hopefully) for writers block! Enjoy!
I adjusted my hat as I ran out the door to meet my friends. We were going camping! The school year had ended and summer was in full swing. Jackie, Glynis, Inna, and Autumn were waiting in the car. What a sight it was too! Jackie’s little four door sedan was loaded down with tents, sleeping bags, duffle bags, and ice chests filled with food and drinks to last us throgh the week. I shoved my duffle in between a purple raft, and someones Minny Mouse sleeping bag. Shaking my head as I got in the car I said, ” Aren’t we a little old for Minnie Mouse?”
” We are never too old for Minnie! She is a wonderful woman and she is the only one of us lucky enough to have a decent man!” Glynis announced.
Everyone was in and ready to go. With Gretchen Wilson declaring she is a redneck woman on the stereo and a last wave to my mom we were on our way.
” Hey Autumn, what other songs do we have in here?” Inna asked. She wasn’t really a big fan of country music after all.
” Well, we’ve got some Pink, Shania, Katy Perry, and, um, let’s see…… Pearl Jam.”
” Put in Katy Perry.”
As the CD began to play I asked, ” So, what are we going to do when we get there?”
” Check out the hot guys!” yelled Glynis.
” Yeah, Yeah, we’ll do that too but I found out about this really fun cook-out at a nearby lodge. I’m sure there will be a lot of cute guys there, and if not, at least we will have some free food!” Jackie told us.
After a couple of hours in the cramped car we had finally arrived. It felt so good to get out of the car and stretch! We set up our tents, decided where to put everything and checked out the rest of the campground. By the time we get back to the campsite the stars were out and Inna went straight for the marshmallows and roasters. Autumn and Glynis got a fire going and Jackie and I brought chairs over. An hour later we were laughing so hard we were in tears as Glynis told us a story about a trip she had taken to the UK. By midnight we were telling ghost stories when something wandered in to the campsite. Jackie shined a flashlight in the direction of the noise and immediately screamed and dropped the light. The smell hit us before we could even ask what it was. A skunk. It had to be a skunk.
