A short but true story of a cat with a sixth sense.

Many years ago we came upon a cat who needed a home. Our landlord didn’t allow pets, so we kept the cat in our family owned office. The cat’s name was Charlie.

Charlie was a female cat, who eventually became pregnant and gave birth to a litter of seven kittens right there in the office.  We made a little bed for the kittens out of a carboard box, with one side cut out of it, and a towel on the bottom to keep them warm. The box was kept near the large front window of the office.

It was perhaps a week or so after the birth of the kittens when Charlie decided to move the kittens one by one to a back room. She had managed to get two kittens back there, and was making the trip with a third kitten when my mom stopped her and replaced the kittens back in their box.

Charlie appeared a bit annoyed. She insisted on bringing the kittens to the back room. She picked another up by it’s scruff and placed it under a table in our back room before returning for another.

Eventually my mom gave in, realizing that she was going to lose this battle with the cat. So she picked up the box, with the remaining kittens in it, and brought it to where Charlie was placing her babies. She then returned all the kittens to the box in it’s new home.

Mom didn’t think much of it at the time, it was just a few moments out of her day. The remainder of the day went on as usual.

The next morning however, when we returned to the office, the large front window had been broken. Shattered glass covered the entire office. There was a brick, obviously the item that had broken the window, and it now lay in the very spot where the kittens box had been the day before.

Thankfully Charlie and her kittens were all unharmed, having been safe in the back room when the brick came through the window. Had they not been moved, this story could have a tragic ending.
