A modern day adaptation of the three billy goats gruff set in Brooklyn. A compelling short story with three African American brothers fighting for survival.
A Change is Coming
Back when bebop was still hot there were three brothers living in west Brooklyn. Malik was the youngest Ali the oldest and Kamal in between them both. These brothers wanted nothing more than to get out of the poor and dangerous neighborhood they lived in. But today their mother was acting particularly hysterical and became enraged at the three of them.
“All you boys ever do is sit around and bide your time until you have to face the facts that you’ll never amount to anything. I’m tired of looking at your pathetic faces why don’t you just get out of my house before I have my man knock you around.” Shrieked their mother like a harpy
So the three brothers left their house and started walking in the neighborhood where they lived.
“That’s it man I can’t take it, I’m not ever going back to that place.” Kamal blurted out
“We have to go back eventually she’s our mom and we don’t exactly have anywhere else to go’’ Ali mumbled
‘’We’ll whatever we do can we go eat first because I am starving. So let’s hit up that McDonalds across the bridge’’ Malik said.
The other brothers just nodded in agreement and their moods seemed to brighten as they thought of tasting those delicious biscuits. And for just a few minutes all three of them seemed to escape their childhood hell to a simple syrupy heaven. But alas the joy didn’t last as the brother’s spotted a particularly aggressive gang banger on the bridge named Demetrius.
‘’Ah man there’s no way were getting across with Demetrius patrolling around these parts’’ Kamal said.
