The day, Fathers day, and like every Fathers day we wanted to do something fun to make it a special and this year was no acceptation.  Mom, Dad and my two brothers all climbed into the family car and headed to the beach for some rest and relaxation.  That was the plan anyway.  Who could have ever planned what was to happen to us once we got there.

We arrived at our favorite beach, the beach we always went to anytime we got to get away as a family.  Turtle beach was a quiet and out of the way strip of sand, where there was never anyone around.  We liked that fact we are alone, just us.

“Hey Dad, why do you think this is called Turtle Beach?” I asked while the umbrellas and blankets were being set out.

“Not really sure.” Dad replied absentmindedly.  “Maybe there use to be turtles that lived here.”

“What do you think Mom?  Why is this place called Turtle Beach?”  Now the whole family was sitting on the blankets watching the wave’s crash and wondering about the name.  That’s when it happened.  That’s when things started to get very strange.  Strange in the ha-ha way not the boo scary way, but strange all the same.

“If you really want to know about the name why don’t you ask me?” The voice came from behind us.  It was a voice we didn’t know but sounded almost cartoon like.  We all turned around at the same time to see a sight you had to see to believe.  “My name is Thomas and I’m the Mayor of Turtle Beach.”

We all stared in disbelief as to what was before us.  Mayor Thomas was not your ordinary mayor.  No Mayor Thomas was a five foot tall turtle.  To make matters even stranger, if that is even possible, he was also purple.  That’s right we were looking at a five foot tall talking purple turtle. 

“Hello Mayor.” My dad was able to get out.  It was all too surreal to believe.  Dad wasn’t quite sure what was happening but wanted to see what was really going on.
