A Dream Come True!

It’s not a joke. Dreams do come true in the 21st century! This is a story about a boy whose dream was to overcome his fears and weaknesses to show the world that he can do anything and is worth something. It wasn’t one of those dreams where you want to be rich or live in a huge mansion and people publish your photographs on the front cover of magazines.

Rio was his name, a simple 16 year old that went to school and watched TV for hours. But the problem was he didn’t have any friends, neither did the teachers liked him because he was too talented and mostly pointed out flaws in a question or answer. He could solve any math’s problem in 2 minutes or write a 3000 words essay without anyone’s help; other parents were jealous of him because their child was dumb compared to him, teachers felt like a student to him, classmates were jealous and his own parents started to pay less attention to him, wondering he could cope on his own.

They were wrong! Utterly and absolutely wrong! Everyone hated him and he began to feel lonely. There was no one to console him in his sadness or a friend to share happiness with.  Everyone thought he was arrogant and selfish.

Late October, 4th 2009. He promised himself that he would persuade his classmates to know that he is not selfish and would help them in troubles. One day, alone in the cafeteria he was eating his lunch when he saw bully snatch money from a 5th grader, making him cry.

“Hey you jerk! Cut it out!” Rio shouted and went towards him with red eyes, though he himself was sweating fear. He never stood up to anyone thinking he might get hurt or his parents might get angry on him.

“Ooooo….look who’s talking? A nerd!” Rio heard back

That made him more furious than ever. Making a tight fist he punched the guy on his face leaving scars and bruises. Just then he started to feel dizzy and fell on the ground. Upon gaining consciousness, he caught a glimpse on his body, there were bruises all over it and pieces of mirrors were scattered all around the room. The mirror he was standing in front of had fallen off and hit him but how.

Around him was no one and there couldn’t have been any one who had hit him because he was sound asleep in his bed and it was 5 am in the morning.

“What’s happening? Who’s there?” he began shouting and woke up everyone in the house.

“What’s wrong honey?” his mom dashed into the room.

“T-t-the” he was stammering.

Upon his realization, he remembered standing in front of the bathroom mirror after a long fight with his classmates and detention from his teacher for not turning in his work. So that was the problem, he had been fighting with himself all along, thinking his was inferior and useless, however it was all his own thinking . He didn’t believe in himself.
