Personal observations. Finding joy in the life we have been granted.

A Few Words……

It was the start of another ordinary day. My wife and I were sitting on the patio, sipping coffee, meditating and reading. That is when I heard it. I heard the young birds.

We knew there was a nest in our neighbor’s tree. In a tree behind their garage. I wonder if they knew that new life was blossoming there. Numerous mornings we had heard those baby birds screaming for mom to bring them breakfast. You could almost hear them shouting, “Mom we are staving here. Bring us some food. We can’t go on much longer. We want food and want it now”. We saw Mom come through for them several times.

But this morning, I heard chirping, more like singing a love song. The sound wasn’t coming from the nest. So I looked one house over, guess who was sitting on the roof peak? They were singing away. No longer screaming for food, instead they were using the gift of singing to welcome the morning. A few days ago their sound was loud and obnoxious, but now, a melody that can only be heard from finches. Ah, their changes in sound brought joy to my morning.

Remembering that as a teenager and in my early twenties, when sleeping in, I used to hate it when singing birds would wake me from slumber. Now that I am older, more wrinkled and grayer, I love to wake to the sweet melody of birds bringing me out of sleep to a sweet beginning of a new day. Now I cherish the beautiful sound   only birds can bring into my life.
