A article on the contamination, and former fishing, of Trail Creek in Athens Ga.

I read about it on line. Excitement grew and fast. Having a love affair with the fly rod, and living in south Ga,to read that a stream stocked with trout and salmon, lay only hours north of home, gave me feelings of pure giddiness. It was only after digging a little deeper , that i discovered, that this trip, was naught to be. Trail creek, which runs through Athens Ga, had been contaminated in 2009. Turning a bright electric blue. Fish kill,,a pigment company being to blame if word of mouth info, was correct when i asked locally. It is a shame, and a sad state, pardon the pun, tho intended, when such things can happen. I mean,,everything is regulated and laws are in place, yet still, it happened. I can only hope and pray Georgia’s other creeks managed or not, will remain pristine, and full of life. Maybe in a few years, Trail Creek will be capable of sustaining trout, and salmon again. It brings a concern to other areas of Georgia, were development is taking bigger ever expanding steps. Industry, such as proposed new coal plants, and human growth both having a effect on our wildlife and resources. Lets hope that the southeast’s future stays bright in these areas.
