A beginning reader/read to me story about how Mom, Carrie and Katie got Mojo, the pygmy goat.
One day, Mom, Carrie and Katie had to go the feed store to get pet food. They had a lot of pets. Mom and the girls liked to go the feed store. Dave, the man that owned the store always had a lot of animals at the store. There were chickens, ducks, sometimes geese, rabbits, guinea pigs, little birds called finches, pigeons and pot-bellied pigs.
It was always fun to pet the animals and listen to the sounds they made. This day was special. Dave had a few baby goats that he wanted to find good homes for. Baby goats are called kids. Mom had goats before Carrie and Katie were born. Mom and the girls loved the little goats.
These kids were pygmy goats. Pygmy goats stay very small. They only grow to be about two feet tall at the shoulder, just about the size of a medium dog. Right now, the little goats were about the size of a little cat. One of the kids there was very cute! Mom, Carrie and Katie fell in love with the little goat. The kid was white with a black stripe down the middle of her back. She had black socks and two black stripes on her face that ran from her eyes to her nose. The kid was tiny and cute. She bounced around and said “Baaa!”
Mom and the girls decided to take the kid home. They named the little goat Mojo. They put Mojo in the big cage in the house with their iguana, Sweetums. Sweetums seemed to like Mojo, and she nibbled the alfalfa Mom put in the cage for Mojo to eat.
It was easy to clean up the cage each day. Mojo used a litter box, like a cat, to go to the bathroom in. Sweetums went potty in the bathtub everyday when Mom took her for a swim. All Mom had to do was put fresh newspaper in the litter box for Mojo and clean water for Sweetums and Mojo to drink. Sweetums ate lettuce, chard, cilantro and other green leafy vegetables.
Sweetums and Mojo liked each other. Mom and the girls were very happy that they had such a cute little goat. They were happy that Sweetums and Mojo liked each other. Mojo and Sweetums were good friends.
