Short story.

The moon gazed on the path ahead. Twilight lamps lit the sky. His movement echoed with every step he took. Looking down he admired the effect of the dead sun in lagoon like puddle at his feet. A moment passed, his reflection tired. He paced around it admiring his handsome figure. Edging a little nearer to get a closer look. Water licking at his feet, he jumped back, the cold water was not refreshing like the morning dew, he did not like how it impended nearer to his feet as though daring him to come closer.

He turned his head away and on he walked down the path. Until he heard a sound, ears pricked up concentrating hard, he glared in the direction he thought the genesis of the noise had come.

Ignoring the faint movement behind him, he uprooted himself from where he stood. Over the years he had learnt these streets well, his feet seeming to take him automatically past his favourite haunts. Turning left he spotted his habitual werly machine. The rims of his pointed mouth turning up slightly at the thought of this clever hiding place.

Putting one foot in front of the other he carried on sniffing the air contently. Licking at the night’s draught tasting its humid, salty breath and remembered the triumphant catch he had made only last week on a night just like tonight.

Carrying his head high he followed the winding path. Then suddenly breaking out of the mould of silence; a crash, followed by the most unearthly racket from behind. It sounded to him as though Mrs phlegmatic had finally got rid of her husband.

A satisfied grin reaching across his face, as he sped along the road. On reaching the old Iron Gate he slipped under as low as he could go to avoid the expecting splinters. Walking further down the languished path he came face to face with the now familiar door he had grown to call his abode.

Scratching at the door, knocking with his feet. A familiar face opened the door. In he strode towards the warm lit fire, curling up in his cat nap chest, closing his bright blue eyes and dreaming merrily of his nights adventures.
