A short story about an orphan who just happens to run into a murder scene. I wrote this story in 7th grade, I thought I’d revise it and post it, and see how well I can mess with it.
Some of the guards around the edges of the street and those surrounding the governor plodded over to the still form of Hound, and a couple walked towards Auri, suspicious of his relation to problem. As Auri backed away, he saw somebody from the crowd, with greying hair, slip out into the street, stepping quickly toward the governor’s throne. Auri, trusting his gut, ducked under the arm of one of the guards, and ran past them, at the grey-haired man moving towards the throne. The man saw Auri and gathered speed, sprinting towards the governor, and, as Auri reached him, he leaped up onto the side of the pyramid, scurrying upwards toward the governor. The guards shouted, alarmed, hurrying back towards the throne, too late to stop him. Auri tensed his legs and sprung as high as he could toward him, grabbing onto his legs. Falling back to the ground, the man gave a snarl and threw a knife, lodging it in the wood next to shocked and horrified governor, missing narrowly by centimeters. The would-be assassin hit the ground lightly, rolling back to his feet, and making a run for it, easily sliding around the panicked grabs of the guards, and back into the crowd, disappearing faster than the people could push away from him. Auri, seized the opportunity and followed suit, dashing into the crowd, and evading any hard-to-answer questions that might have been asked of him had he remained at the scene. He didn’t stop running until he was far from the parade, in a small abandoned shed that he often spent the night in. Blocking the cloudy, cracked windows with old cloth he had stored there, and blocking the door with an old, rotten table, that normally was leaned, sideways, against the wall, he curled up in a corner and napped, waiting for the city to calm down, when he would go back into the city, and uncover the reasons behind this series of strange events…
