Experiences of a young girl who witnessed the death of her sister due to lack of medical negligence.

Regina was looking very cute and innocent. Her curly hair filled with sweat and scattered on her face with the round black eyes were adding to her beauty. She turned 1 this summer. I had always been jealous of her beauty. Suddenly she vomited again and I returned to the present. It was 15th time she had vomited. My mother shouted at me and asked me to take her in my lap and put few drops of the water solution in her mouth that she handed over to me. As I picked her in my lap Regi started playing with my necklace. She was looking very fragile and weak when she feebly smiled at me. Her face had gone completely pale. I could hear my mother was sobbing while my father had gone to call the doctor. The medical facility was really bad

We were living in an area where doctor was not available and for any emergency we had to go almost 3 miles. By the time doctor arrived Regina had already been exhausted because of the vomiting. After examining doctor gave some powder to Regina after dissolving it in the water, and instructed my mother to keep feeding this water to Regina. After giving her this solution for sometime, the vomiting stopped and Regina was looking better. But she was still breathing heavily. I was feeling bad for being so jealous to her and I wanted to cry. I asked my mother if I can stay with Regina that night because I was feeling guilty. Suddenly in the night, Regina vomited and she fell unconscious. I hysterically started calling my mother, “Mom, look at Regi she is not speaking.” In the  state of hysteria I shook Regi, “Regi! Regi!, for Allah sake please say something.” By this time my parent had arrived in the room. My father took me away from her and asked me to pray to Allah for her. My mother was also very upset and she hysterically shouted my father to take her to the hospital immediately.

In few hours we were on the road. The auto rickshaw took 60 minutes to reach to the hospital. While on the way, I was praying to Allah to save my little sister. When we reached the hospital, we landed into the worst nightmare of our lives as there was only one doctor on duty in the emergency who was attending almost 45-50 patients alone. He asked us to put Regina on the bed and it took almost 20 minutes to attend Regina. By this the breathing of Regina had almost gone like an engine. He instantly asked the nurse to put her on saline and give some shots to her. Though nurse put her on the saline but she had no injection in stock so doctor asked my father to get that injection from the medical store. My father ran to the medical store in the mean time Regina was jumping because of breathlessness and by the time my father got the injection suddenly Regina stopped breathing. Though doctor immediately gave her the shot but Regina showed no movement after that. Her eyes were wide opened as if she was scared and looking at me she wanted me to save her. I cried because I was helpless and had nothing in my hand to save her. I was still asking why this happened to her. She never did wrong then why Allah took her away from us. Why? And no one had any answer to this.
