College is where I enjoy the most with my friends. There’s just so much new and interesting things happening everyday. Here’s one I recently experienced.
Announcement for the 2nd year students of my college: “Freshers’ Welcome Party to be held on the last week of August, ‘11. All 2nd year departments are requested to participate.”
Date of the announcement : 16th August, ‘11.
Day 1:
“Alright girls, gather round. We have lots of time to practice. Lets do a Bollywood mash-up dance number” , Senna, our forever forward Class Representative shot her idea at us, “Now, who all want to participate?”
All 12 of us raised our hands.
Bunking the last class of the day, the 13 students of the Department of Physics (including the CR..who rarely bunked classes) occupied a whole wing of the Common Room. All of us were eager to perform for our 1st year mentors. Being an all girls’ college, ragging was not a very prevalent rite in the institution and the Freshers’ welcome party was the only means of breaking the ice with the timid juniors.
Ours had been an awesome party, what with highly talented seniors and the presence of a Greek God of a DJ. We wanted to better that and prove to the adorable first years how cool their seniors were.
“We should totally dance in Sheila!”, piped in Darmela.
“Hell no! That is sooo last year, and the seniors already danced in that. We’ve to dance in the latest songs.” , Rinja’s voice boomed across the Common Room. A few first years present in the room looked up curiously.
“How about…..”
And everybody started coming up with names of the hottest dance numbers the industry had to offer. At last, we decided on a mash-up of five latest super-hit songs. Since Rinja had a strong idea of how the mash-up should be incorporated, we gave her the job of creating the mash-up.
Songs decided, jobs given, we waved good-bye to each other and headed home.
Day 2:
Bunking class…this time, the very first… myself, Tiya, Darmela, Denen, Sertya, Kilid, Rafyen, Sarah, Jiyel, Senna, Frum and Carol were discussing who and how many were going to dance as boys and who as girls. Rinja had not shown up yet.
We finally decided on three girls and ten boys. Senna, Rinja and Denen were finalized as the girls, owing to their short height and also to the fact that they could do the right ‘moves’. The rest of us left-footed dancers were the boys.
