A male mantis escapes his fate.

Killove being a young mantis growing up in the jungle of Norfolk lost a lot of his buddies to an unknown beast. One minute they would talk about having a date of some sort and while the rest of the crew would wait to here about what happened. They never did here from them ever again. For some other reason, no one wanted to say or think of what happened except that they fell in love and moved to another forest or jungle together. Killove came up with the idea to follow the next one to have a date to see what the deal really was.

The time comes for Charlie to go out with Terri so Killove follows far enough behind not to be seen. Most of the things he dreamt of where happening. They hopped around shared bug legs and other treats while laughing and playing the whole time. Killove starts thinking, “I can see why they don’t come back there having way more fun than the gang ever has”. Suddenly they are very close and Terri is on top of Charlie. Charlie and she seem to be having sexual relations and Killove’s mind is blown. One part of him wants to go right now and find Carla so he could share the experience that Charlie and Terri where sharing, but he also had to stay and watch for the fella’s sake. After about a minute or so Charlie is flipped over by her and she bites his head off. Killove almost screamed out when he saw what happened. He still saw Charlie moving with the motions as if he still had his head. Killove thought that they didn’t find there way home because of that, but once she was finished he just stayed there. At first Killove thought it was because he was tired so after she left he went over full of excitement to ask how it was. As he got closer Charlie looked as if the life was sucked out of him. Despite the ending, Killove knew that he died happy and couldn’t wait for his turn. Only he was going to wait until he learned more about why she bit his head off. When he returned to the spot he conveniently left out the part of having his head bit off just so he could learn and study them as they went on there first and last date.
