Once upon a time a friendship used to stand for something, it had foundation, code of honour and principles… What is friendship to you?

Here is a little story to remind us of what true friendship really stand for… What all relationships are built on…

A man decides to test a virtue of three of his closest friends, so one day he takes what looks like a dead body wrapped carefully in plastic bags and visits his first friend. At the door his first friend greets him with welcoming smiles, so the man began,

“My friend may I entrust you with this bag and I will come back to collect it from you at the same time tomorrow,”

“What is in this bag?” his friend asks suspiciously

“That I cannot tell you; but I would like to entrust you with it for my life depends on it,”

“Get the hell out of my sight,” replied his friend aggressively, “you are not my friend and I do not want to know you!” as he slammed the door in his face.

So the man now ventures to his second friend and asks of him the same request, and after his friend asked the same questions as the first, he finally replied,

“Of course my friend, you can entrust me with anything for you are dear to me and I will always be the rock you can lean on”.

However, when the man returned the next day, he found that his friend has opened the bag and looked inside, therefore breaking his trust, so the man asked him,

“Why did you open the bag my friend and break my trust?”

“Are you insane or a complete idiot?” retorted his friend self-righteously, “you waltz over here to entrap me and then expect me not to look inside?”

So the man ventures to his last friend and requests the same, but his friend asked him no further questions, but opened the door wide and allowed him in, giving the man the simple answer,

“Absolutely”.

The next day, the man returned to find his bag was still in the same condition that he left it in, so the man turned around and asked him for a second request,

“Thank you my friend -but may I ask you now to help me bury this bag quickly?’

His friend agreed again and helped him bury the bag, but when the task was complete, the man turned to his friend and asked,

“Why did you not judge me on the surface appearance of this bag, as my first friend had done?”

I like this story. You must have trust, honesty, and dependability of each other to be friends. A true friend has your best interest at heart, and no ill will towards you. No doubts, no reservations when you are in need of each other.

This piece is well written and well intentioned. I hope it is equally well read and adopted.
