After we were warriors – The direct sequel to once were warriors. What happened between once were warriors and what becomes of the broken hearted.

I just arrived home with the family; I had dropped Nig off at his gangs place on the way.

I put Boogie, Polly and Huata to sleep. I was just about to doze off when I received a phone call, I picked up the phone It was fuzzy. I could make out a mans voice it became a little clearer. I heard a man saying come pick me up, as it got clearer I realised it was Jake.

“Hey Beth, come Bloody bail me out, I got arrested for assault, they want to keep me here for 6 bloody months” Jake said.

I Replied with “No Jake, we’ve had enough of you, you can rot for all I care”. And I slammed down the phone and carried on with my sleep.

The next day I woke up I went out to the kitchen. The kids were waiting to be fed. I opened up the cupboards but all that was there was some rat poison and dust. I realised I needed a job; I had 20 dollars to my name so I took the kids out for a feed at McDonalds.

While I was there I thought I could try getting a job. So I applied at the desk I was told to go round to the back and ask the manager.

I walked through where the part where the food was being made, I could smell the grease in the air. I spotted the office, I threw my hand on the door knob, and it was slippery, probably from the grease, after a while managed to nuzzle myself in.

I walked inside the office, it was a very nice sort of scene, and the walls were made of smooth white bricks sort of like a fancy toilet. I approached the desk and asked if there were any jobs available.

“Do you have any qualifications as a chef, because that’s all where looking for at the moment.” claimed the manager.

“Well I don’t have any qualifications, but I do cook for my family every night” I replied.

“Well I’m sorry you’re not what we’re looking for” He said.

So I left McDonalds with the kids and we all went back home and I thought what was I going to do for money I realised I’d have to go on the benefit.
