The direct sequel to Once Were Warriors. What happened between Once Were Warriors and what becomes of the broken hearted.

After a few months of struggling through, paying the bills and paying for food, I finally had a job at a fruit and vegetable store; I was a picker out in the garden.

It was the perfect job, not only was the pay good I could also bring home as much fruit and vegetables as we needed.

For once in all our lives we were all doing great the kids have fresh new clothes, I can go out on a Friday with all my mates and were all eating healthily.

This led on for a few more months until one day I received a letter noting that Jake was released from prison and where he was located.

I decided after a few days I’d visit Jake; take some divorce papers get him to sign them so I can finally be free of him. Judging from the address given I assumed the house was a flat, and he was with an old mate or someone he met in prison.

I caught the bus and was taken to my destination; I hoped off the bus and walked around trying to find his house.

Once I found it, the place looked like a trash heap, there were beer bottles outside on the lawn, the house paint was a faded light green; the path leading to the cracked wood door was all cracked and rippled.

I knocked on the door and waited for an answer, Jake answered the door, He was already drunk and it was 11am on a Sunday. He said to me,

“Ha, I knew you’d come crawling back, now come here and give me a kiss women”

I pushed him away and yelled

“Jake, I’m here to get a divorce all you have to do is sign here, ok”

He snatched the papers off me and with a cursive mumble under his breath he signed it with his name, He threw the papers back at me and slammed the door screaming for me to get the hell out of there.

I was pleased and finally free of him, I walked back to the bus stop caught the bus and was ready to live out the rest of my life without Jake, eventually I married a counsellor worker, and me and the family moved in with him.

Until my next adventure….The End.
