The crash sensors send the signal to the air bag, when a grim crash happen. The inflators ignite a solid pushing that burns fast. It make a large volume of gas to widen the bag. This gas is unharmed and the bags widen instantly. 

Air bags help saving human lives, but they do not remove the need of seat belts. It is advise that people use these safety trick while urging. The number of auto accidents is bing on account of non-adherence to the safety steps. It is pompous to be aware of the safety trick fitted in the means, before making a purchase.
