You think your summers have their ups and downs? See how one kids mind grabs hold of them and takes them on a wild journey, from A to Z.
All I did over the summer was relax. By the time summer was over, I was tired of just sitting around, watching T.V. Can you imagine waking up every day at noon, going to the kitchen, grabbing a bowl of cereal, and eating it in the living room as you watch Dr. House jerk patients around on the big flat screen? Day after day, nothing but food, sleep, House, and the random grotesque medical and criminal shows that came one every week. Even though this sounds oh so terrible, it is how I chose to spend my break from the prison we have come to call school.
Finally, after two months of sitting on my couch like a potato buried in the dirt, I decided to pick up my roots from within its cushions and do something. Grabbing my shoes and slipping from my pajamas into normal clothes, I stepped out into the real world. How bright the sun was as I stepped out into its shinning rays. I squinted my eyes to keep out some of the light and began to walk down the street.
Jeeps, Mustangs and Explorers raced past me as I strolled along. Kicking stones and smelling the flowers helped me pass the time. Little birds chirped in their nests, dogs barked, and squirrels raced each other through yards of grass. My mind began to wander greatly between reality and a distant land as I walked and watched nature.
On my left walked a lion, fierce and yet gentle, and just ahead of me grew a tall wall of white roses. Paws out, the lion clawed his way through the colorful bush, and I followed right behind him. Quicker and quicker the lion pushed on, and faster and faster I chased after him. Rose thorns stabbed my arms and legs as I was forced to run in order to keep up with him, blood painting the roses red.
Soon, I emerged from the flowery forest and found myself standing beside a lake. There, in front of me, a castle stood, towering high into the sky. Above all the clouds the highest tower hovered. Very tired from my journey, I looked for the lion I had followed. Whirling around, I looked behind me to see where he had gone. Xylaphobia kicked in as the forest, once of pretty roses, was now replaced with that of dense trees reaching high into the sky. Yelling and screaming I woke from my dreamy state and ran home to hide in my safe, wood-free bed room. Zach later knocked on my door to tell me that mom was serving dinner, but I dare not leave my room with fear that I would disappear back into the world of gentle lions and viscous looking forests of trees.
