Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there lived a princess with her King whom she loved with all her heart, soul, strength and mind. She loved her King dearly because He had rescued her from a dark and miserable life of slavery and death.
Her Father, was in fact, the Mighty King of Kings and by the power of His love He broke all of her chains, scooped her up and took her to His castle. Ever grateful the slavegirl joyfully accepted the gift of salvation and everlasting life, wearing upon her head a new and glorious crown!
Unaccustomed to such magnificent living, the princess remained always amazed and in awe of how the King loved her. The King was faithful and kind and pure and generous and compassionate and merciful–but most of all the King was patient with her. The more time she spent with Him, the more she desired always to be with Him. With a heart of gratitude, the princess was given over with great desire to serve the King. The princess longed to dote on Him, adore Him, praise Him, love Him and honor Him. In times of stillness, she loved to curl up and lie down peacefully at His feet. In times of great distress or discomfort, she would lay herself in His strong arms and tuck her tearful face into His chest. In times of weakness and weariness, the princess called out to her King and He would always come quickly to her aid and she’d allow Him to carry her, draped and nestled close to His heart. During times of great joy and even occasion of great sorrow, the princess loved to sing and dance for her King. She loved the way He loved her, and she loved Him all the more.
Though the princess had heard of princes, and tales of other princesses being married off by the King to such men as these, she wasn’t too keen on the idea of ever leaving the castle. And while on occasion, she pondered the notion and sometimes wondered if such a prince would exist that would love her King as she did, she’d quickly dismiss the thought. Instead, the princess at times became fearful knowing that never could anyone usurp the power of her King and that no one would ever love her as He did.
One day, as she peered out from the castle tower into the horizon taking in the vast view of her King’s land, something unexpected caught her eye. A prince? She thought or perhaps imagined that she perceived a silhouette and heard the whisper of her name being carried on the wind. She squinted and perceived correctly, and then startled, the princess shut her window and quickly fled to her King.
“What manner of disturbance is this?” she asked herself rather shrewishly. Upset, she felt the loving hand of her King upon her shoulder. She turned to Him, as always. He cupped her face and planted a tender kiss atop her head with a gentle reassurance. “Do not be afraid,” said the King with His voice like the strong streams of a river washing over all of her rough edges.
A little while passed, and the princess had found great assurance in the love and comfort of her King, so much so that she had let go of the unease from her unexpected encounter.
Again one day, as she ran from one task to the next serving her beloved King, she paused briefly to peer out from the castle and take in the view. To her great astonishment, again, she saw him and thought she heard her name being called out. Instead of feeling distraught, this time a trill of hope seemed to flutter across her heart. The feeling was foreign, and the princess knew but only a smattering of such a sensation.
With a courage that errupted in laughter, she called back to the prince on the horizon. The precocious princess smirked, safe and sound within the castle of her King.
