With women and children running, crying, and screaming everywhere, Elizabeth decided that it was time to do something besides standing and looking at everyone in shock. As she was starting to get the women and children settled down and Sherrilyn began treating them. She started asking some of the women questions about what had happened at the village. It was difficult at first because Sherrilyn is obviously English and the women did not trust her. She approached an older woman and asked her what her name was. She looked up at Elizabeth with startled eyes and said I am Laura my lady. Elizabeth sat down beside her and said

“I am Lady Elizabeth, and I am very glad to meet you Laura, can you tell me what has happened here”.

“They attacked our village and killed all of our men”. The woman said

“Who are they”? Asked Elizabeth.

“The English my lady they hate the Highlanders, and have been taking our cattle for the last few months, but now they have started attaching and killing our men”. Laura answered.

“Is their anyone that will help you”? Elizabeth asked?

“Yes my lady, we have sent for our laird and he will be here soon to help”. Laura said.

“Laura, have you seen my sister”? Asked Elizabeth.

“If you are talking about the young girl on the horse that came into our village she made us all leave as she was rounding up the children that the parents have been killed”. Laura explained.

“Thank you Laura, now relax and I will try to get you a little of what we have to eat”.

As Elizabeth continued to help Sherrilyn and making what they had available for everyone to eat Daniella finally came over the hill with about 6 children in tow.

“Oh Daniella I have been so worried about you”! Elizabeth said.

“Sorry Elizabeth, but when I finally was able to get all the kids together I decided that I had better try to get a couple rabbits to fix for our meal”. Daniella answered.

“Well, it looks as though rabbit is not the only thing that you have picked up”. Elizabeth said

Daniella looked down to see a little girl peaking around her legs. She had been attached to Daniella since she had found her partially laying under her ma & pa. Both of her ma & pa where dead and it would appear they where trying even in death to protect her. Elizabeth held out her hand to the little girl who could have only been about 4, but she grabbed a hold of Daniella’s leg and would not let go.
