A bizarre abduction in the Amazon River…

Quick, darting glances in every direction. I calmly keep my eyes moving every second. It is impossible to keep still in this area of the river. A blink of an eye does not exist here. The sun breaks through the clouds and gleams into the murky water. What was once turbid water, now has a new light, a less mysterious tone. The new light catches my attention, as I direct my focus to a reflecting scale, and bury myself into the sandy bottom. I try to keep steady, and slow my heart rate. Underneath, all is hushed. A repeated pattern of slaps against the surface approaches, easily recognized as a boat. Unsure of what to do, I keep still, hoping to avoid the predator. The small fishing boat floats over head, creaking as the wooden planks are pushed with a propelling force. The disturbances to the surface fade, and the sounds softly grow dim as it paddles into the distance.

Feeling relieved by my escape, I let my guard down. The limpid river turns opaque as the sun creeps behind a passing cloud. Ever so slightly my visibility diminishes, and I am once again left in the darkness. The element of security has vanished. Without a trace, I am abducted into the vast jaws of the one I fear most.
