Kwanza or Kwanzaa is an African feast which is celebrated in North America from December 26 to January 01. There is an important African American community in the United States of America. Kwanza comes from the Swahili language and means first.

Kwanza means first in Kiswahili.  This last language is spoken in East African by trades men or merchants.  It is a mixture of Bantu, Arabic, European and Asian languages.  Children will like to learn there math like that by know how to count in Kiswahili: kwanza, piri, tatu, which are one, two and three.  Kwanza is also moja or one which gave the concept of Umoja meaning unity.

Unity or Umoja is very important in Africa.  The population in Africa most of the time make a living out of the primary sectors for example, agriculture, livestock and fisheries and to some extent natural resources.  The population in Africa needs to be safe to go and work the earth.  That is why the rangers are appreciated, because they tame the wildlife, which can attack the crops.  We know then that most of the African were brought to America to work in the fields.

There is no doubt, that the African community has to contribute to the American society by letting know the other populations how they cope with the land.  The introduction of African foods like the sweet banana plantain is an expression of cooperation between the people of African and the United States of America.  We need snacks and the banana chips are good for our digestive system. So, Africa culinary art is the proof of a rich civilization which promotes rice as part of the receipe as well as grains like beans, peas and chick peas.  Most of the travellers from all over the world come to East Africa, and especially on the shores of Lake Tanganyika to eat a special green vegetable, which is dodo from Uganda, or Irengarenga from Burundi or spinach from Kenya.
