A story about a nurse and her struggle with multiple sclerosis.

She spent most of the time in bed and said that she was going to help with the money situation by sending in tips on things in the kitchen and around the house to women’s magazines. She asked her dad to pick up some post cards, which he did. She was doing a lot of writing while in her bed. He figured she was writing her tips or possibly working on her business. She did not, however, give him any cards to mail. He said nothing of it.

Chapter 11

On January the fifth, Gayle and her dad went to their monthly Doctor appointment where they got their prescriptions. The Avonex had been raised to $1048.00 per month.

They picked up the medicines and did their grocery shopping.

Gayle’s father had been renegotiating their mortgage to lower payments. It was going well and in the final stages, but not yet complete. There was no problem with it, just a matter of time.

On January 12, Gayle’s dad did not feel well. Gayle put him in her bed where he could lay down and watch her TV. She brought him juice and his pills and tended to him just like the nurse she was in the past.

The next day, the 13th, Gayle was in bed while her dad was sitting in his chair in the living room. She called him in to her room and asked him if he would like barbequed ribs for dinner. He told her it depended on how she would be feeling and that at the time he was not feeling that well and they could decide later.

Gayle was tired and stayed in bed all that day. At about four, PM Gayle came crawling down the hallway. She was out of her head. Her dad asked her what she was doing and she said she was looking for knives. Her dad managed to convince her to get back to bed. She did but was more passed out than asleep. She hung over the side of the bed so her dad put her back on it. He had seen her many times before this way and figured to let her sleep.

Gayle’s dad lay down in his bed because he was still feeling sick. He could hear Gayle breathing. It was noisy and hard to describe but she had done this before too. He lay there and dozed of and on. Suddenly at about 10PM He had to go to the bathroom. He got up and realized all was quiet. He looked in and realized that Gayle was not breathing. He shook her and screamed at her to wake up. He ran to the phone and called 911. The operator told him how to administer CPR and he tried but knew it was no use. The paramedics arrived and confirmed it.

Gayle was dead.

Gayle had been an Angel of mercy all her life, first to animals and then to both animals and humans. She left behind three dogs, 6 cats and her father. The Angel of mercy was now a real Angel in Heaven. Her 76 year old dad is broke, quite likely to be homeless soon, and alone except for the animals. One son has been trying to help but has not the money either. The other son has not been heard from for many years and Gayle’s dad does not even know where he is, but Gayle’s dad has faith in his Lord to help him. I am sure it is well placed.
