A short essay describing features of Anubis, The god of the Dead.
Anubis, God of the Dead, was a big part of Egyptian religion. His mother was shown as Nephtys and his father was normally shown as Set but in some myths it was Osiris. He was the Great God of the Dead and Embalming and he watched over the embalming ceremonies. When the dead went to the Underworld and walked up to the balance Anubis made the balance even and to help him with that he had a small weight and he always held the Symbol of Life. If he thought that this person was a good person he would present him to Osiris and Osiris would send them to the Afterlife. If Anubis did not think that this person was worthy of going to the Afterlife he would feed their soul to Ambit (the hippo/crocodile/lion) and the soul would be lost forever. Anubis was also worshiped in many other civilizations and these are the ones in which he stood. The Great Babylonians believed him as Nergal. The Fantastic Celtics worshiped him as Arwan. The Impressive Aztecs called him Micrlantecuhtui. The Powerful Chinese thought of him as Yen-Wang-Yeh. The Expert Norse named him Hel. The Thriving Greek prayed to him as Pluto. And finally the glorious Christians praised him Azreal the Angel of Death.
In Ancient Egypt Anubis was shown in many myths but the best one was about him growing up. It starts in a far away island on a field when Anubis was born with no one to care for him so his mother Nephthys went to Osiris’s Palace and tricked him into caring for Anubis. After many years Osiris abandoned him and threw him in the marshes. Anubis was helpless but then Isis came to the rescue and cared for him. When Anubis grew up he protected her for the favor she had done for him and soon after Ra made him God of the Dead. Anubis took on the roles of weighing the dead persons heart and watching over the embalming ceremonies but there was more to come. Osiris one of the Kings of Egypt wanted to spread his greatness to the rest of the world and Anubis accompanied him. A bit after they came back Seth, Osiris’s brother, murdered Osiris. Anubis helped Osiris put the pieces back together and soon after Osiris took over the role of God of the Dead. So Anubis was second in command and helped Osiris with his job.
To end all off this Anubis this Great God of the Dead that had taken the role of embalming. Grew up very mysteriously was always helping the dead get to the Afterlife. And in the end he was one of the best gods ever.
