Many years ago I used to babysit for a friend who had a fairly large record collection. Among these records she had "Peter, Paul & Mary in Concert". This was one of maybe four or five albums that I listened to every time I babysat for her.
Many years ago I used to babysit for a friend who had a fairly large record collection. Among these records she had “Peter, Paul & Mary in Concert”. This was one of maybe four or five albums that I listened to every time I babysat for her. I grew up on PP&M. I grew up singing their songs and hearing them on my sisters’ records and they were such a presence in my young life that their music really shaped much of my personality and taste.
Well, this particular album had such a special place in my heart that I determined that I had to have it. The trouble was that finding it for a price I could afford was difficult at best. Many of the albums I want for my collection are like that…even used they are costly. I finally found an affordable price on Amazon and after my gift certificate balance was used up, I ended up paying less than $7 for it. When I got it, I was thrilled!

One thing that happened after getting this album was a renewed desire to reconnect with my friend that I used to babysit for. I decided to try Facebook and I am happy to say I FOUND HER!!!
Since then my daughter and I listen to this album almost every day. She loves it as much as I do. Some music is just timeless. Good music will appeal to generation after generation. PP&M is such quality music. A lot of music has limited appeal but this stuff will never fade or die. I will never tire of it.
Isn’t it amazing what an emotional connection we form to the music we grow up with? We build memories that our brains attach to the music we hear and, just like a touchstone, those memories come back bright and vivid when we hear those songs. What music does this sort of thing for you? What memories do you attach to your music?
