This is a short paragraph about my grandfather.
His name was Augustus Hammer. Born in 1932 he grew up in a small city called Battle Creek, Michigan. He quit school as a teenager so he could take care of his siblings. They lived in a house that him and his father built years before they had past away. He worked hard to take care of the ones he love and never let his family go hungry. In the 1950’s Augustus was drafted by the army to serve his country in the Korean war. Where he served for 2 years and was respected by his platoon members as well as his commanding officers. This man made a respected name for his self and he came home from Korea with 12 metals for his bravery in the war. Augustus came home and worked as a corrections officer until he had enough money to open his own automotive garage. He got married to Laura Lake who was a nurse. They where married and had 2 beautiful girls, Cindy then they had Rhonda. They raised there kids until the mid 70’s they got divorced. Cindy and Rhonda had there first kids around the same time. It was about 1982 when they had there kids. they’re names were matthew who was the son of Cindy and John was the son of Rhonda. Agustus then found a beautiful young women by the name of Joy Shirley. Cindy had her second kid around 1983 who’s name was Nathan. Cindy got married to Bruce Ellsworth. In 1986 Rhonda was married to Charles Burk when they had her second kid Charles Hammer. In the 1990’s Agustus married Joy Shirley and had there wedding in the state of Texas. Rhonda had divorced Charles and had 3 kids with another man. Augustus had 7 grand children that he loved with all his heart. Augustus and Joy where married for 23 years. In 2008 Augustus past away and that is when I realized how much respect people had for this man. He took care of other’s kids and showed them all a good work ethic. He was respected by by others because he had took in a lot of people and they all show how greatful they were by helping him around his house. That day when we carried him I realized that he had done much more then what I will ever know.
