He wished he was back sleeping with his Mummy and Daddy. Then Ben saw a big flash of lightning, light up his bedroom and heard a loud crash of thunder.

He jumped out of his bed, and ran into his Mummy and Daddy’s bedroom.

He felt very frightened and just wanted too sleep in their bed again. Mummy and Daddy were both fast asleep so Ben quietly tried to wriggle in-between them, but it was no good, no-mater how much he wriggle-jiggled, Ben just couldn’t get in between them. Then he had an idea, he let some air out of Daddy balloon, shush, shush went Daddy balloon as the air came out of him, till he began to look quiet wrinkled, so Ben stopped.

Ben tried again to get in their bed, wriggle-jiggle he went, wriggle-jiggle again, but it was no use he still couldn’t get in, he was just too big. So Ben let some air out of his Mummy, shush, shush went Mummy balloon as the air came out of her, till she to began to look quit wrinkled to, so Ben stopped.

Again he tried to get in their bed, wriggle-jiggle, wriggle-jiggle he went, but he still couldn’t get in-between them. He was just too big!!

Then Ben had an idea, he let some air out of himself, shush, shush, he went as the air came out of him, till he began to feel quite small and wrinkly. He tried again to get in the bed, wriggle-jiggle, wriggle-jiggle he went. Wriggle-jiggle, wriggle-jiggle again he went, and at last, with one more wriggle he was in.

Ben felt so happy and safe back in his Mummy and Daddy’s bed he soon fell fast asleep.

In the morning Daddy balloon woke up first and said, what’s happened to me I’m all wrinkly and small? Mummy balloon woke up and said what’s happened to me, I’m all wrinkly and small too!! Then they saw Baby Ben Balloon snuggled in between them.

Daddy balloon was very cross with Ben, and said to him.

You know what this means don’t you Ben, you’ve let me down, and you’re Mummy down, and you’re self down!! Ben said he was very sorry and promised from now on, he would always sleep in his own bed. Daddy and Mummy balloon took a few deep breaths and we’re soon back to their proper size. Ben took a deep breath too, and quickly grew back to his proper size.

He told Mummy and Daddy about the owl in the tree with the big round shiny eyes, and how the thunder and lightning had frightened him.

It’s alright Ben said Daddy balloon, I’m sorry I was cross with you, we all get frightened at night if we hear scary noises, and gave Ben a hug . Ben got back in his own bed, and Mummy tucked him in. He was still very tired after his night’s adventures, and was soon happily fast asleep.
