This is the first story in a series of stories I’m hoping to write with Allison Jae. Check out Broken Candle for the start of this world.
The black unmarked helicopter flew over and landed in an empty field near the house. This wouldn’t help with the neighbors. Unmarked helicopter’s landing out on your land was something that doesn’t happen very often out here so roomers would go flying. Anger still sat heavy in his chest but he was curious about what they wanted.
“Blackmore.” He heard the familiar voice call. “How is your retirement treating you?”
Blackmore turned. “Hello Max.” He called back. “This better be important.”
“The brass think it is.” Max smiled. “They sent me to bring you back. The Harakis are back at it.”
“Better come inside.” Blackmore sighed. “Get the fucken chopper out of my pasture.”

Blackmore sat at the table in the kitchen waiting for Max to join him. After a year of being free from their bullshit one of his only unsolved cases had to rear it’s ugly head. Maybe this time he could get it taken care of. Maybe he could at least find out who it was.
Max walked in followed by his new partner. Blackmore hissed as he saw the person he knew as Custodian. He was really starting to wish he had killed him when they caught him. He was uglier in his human form then he was in his Sadian form.
“What the fuck is he doing here?” Blackmore growled. “I don’t want that murderer in my house.”
“I told them we should just leave you alone Blackmore.” Custodian smiled. “Not that we don’t need you. In fact I think you’re the best one for the job but I thought that there was no reason we should bring you back in.”
“How did they show themselves?” Blackmore asked mostly ignoring Custodian.
“They hit the Somitor sanatorium.” Max told him. “They freed some of the worst Sadian’s we brought in. They also took out yellow squad.”
Blackmore looked unimpressed at Max. Somitor had housed some of the worst Sadian offenders but they weren’t all that strong. Most of the people they’d locked up in there weren’t even that bad; they didn’t deserve to be locked up at all.
“Yellow squad was never that impressive in the first place.” He smirked. “That was the only squad that had the right color coding on them. Who all escaped the sanatorium?”
“Galinar, Todson and Eastman were the big ones.” Max said. “We caught a bunch of them not long after they got out but those three got away. So did Osiros.”
Blackmore’s attention was peaked when Max said that. Osiros was the worst of the worst. The only person he ever truly wished he’d killed. It would have saved everybody a lot of trouble.
“That doesn’t seem like something they would do.” He growled. “He did more to damage Sadian freedom then anybody else in the world. They would’ve sooner killed him then let him go.”
“The group the broke in to free were on the floor above the cells they were kept in.” Max explained. “One of them must have blown a hole in the wall why they were escaping. Osiros and his crew must have used it to escape.”
Blackmore felt anger well up in him at the thought of Osiros being loose on the world. He had fought that bastard and defeated him just barely at that point. It was one of the first missions he’d ever been on and he had been inexperienced back then. Now he could use his abilities better then most Sadian’s could. A smile crossed his face as he reached his decision.
“Take me in.” Blackmore said as he stood. “I want to talk to the brass myself.
