A small boy takes a trip and gets more than he bargains for.

Balloon ride

Hot air.

That’s what makes it go.

About time, I had to wait for ages.

They were all standing around. Uncle Pete said there was lots of stuff to check, they looked like they were just hanging around to me.

I wanted to get going.

So I did. I’m right up in the sky, drifting to the moon!

I’m not scared.

I’m doing what everyone wanted.

Only I beat them to it.

It wasn’t easy either, those ropes were really hard to untie. ‘Specially without anyone noticing.

It was exciting.

It still is. I’m six years old and I’m the highest boy in the world.

The ground’s far away.

I can’t see any people or houses.

I was so clever, I jumped aboard before they noticed, they didn’t even see the balloon taking off until it was too late.

I had to bite my lip to keep quiet, but I’m not a baby, I didn’t squeal.

It was funny when they did see me, see me leave them all behind!

They looked scared, but I’m not.

I don’t get scared.

I’m a bit tired though.

And cold.

It’s nice up here, but I wish I’d let my mum come too.

And Uncle Pete, he’d know how to get home again.

I don’t know what to do.

I think I’ll close my eyes. I can’t keep on going higher.

Can I?

I’ve had enough now.

Can someone get me down?

Please.

I’ll be a good boy, I promise…
