From love to hate, but moods seem diametrically opposed, there is only one step. And the most sensitive and spiritual are the spouses, the faster it moves from one state to another. Tempers are snatching caught the same right to left. A great capacity for love is for a large capacity of bitterness and hatred in people’s minds as rich in sensibility and emotion, every feeling has its counterpart. Who can love a lot is also capable of hating with no limits. Only in the theater are characters whose feelings have only one direction, that is what is called unit character. But life is very different as seen in the theater, whose literature is the most inferior and simplistic. There is no such unit in the mental life of any real person of flesh and blood, with his spirit complex, undulating and variable, with its passions struggling with themselves and with the passions, desires and wishes of others. A very fine sensitivity, as the flower of the air, can make us very happy, but very unfortunate: give us great hopes, and exult contentment overwhelmed, and profound sadness and melancholy overburdened. A very loving and tender soul hurts him an injustice, a dirty word, a concept rude, selfish act in a much more acute than normal sensitivity beings. And so exquisite tenderness and emotional react violently to the point dull resentment. Do not be confused with revenge, resentment, you can be without being spiteful vindictive. Revenge is low passion, ignoble resentment, stuck like an ember in the soul, is a feeling produced by an offense to the best qualities of our spirit.
