he BBC is at it again – just announced that the son of late (and massively over-rated) radio presenter John Peel now has his own radio show.

Now, Tom Ravenscroft may or may not be very talented at choosing tracks and playing them, and chatting in between, but that isn’t the point. There must always be a suspicion that he has used family fame, opportunity and contacts to his advantage in following his father’s career path. People with self-respect tend to try to excel in some wholly new area, just to make it clear that their success is down to their own talent and nothing else.
As for the BBC – well I suppose it fits in with the pattern of Dimblebies, DansonofPeter Snow and others. Rather depressing.
