The punishment for the Killers of Laela begins here.
It took two days for us to get everything loaded into the wagons and moving south. Sam would take the contents of our house to New York and then find another town for his family while Nathaniel would move north from there and hunt down Judge Oakly. I acted like I was catatonic for the most part during those days. I would help when no one else was around but made it look like I was drunk or just not there when there were.
All of this lead up to the third day when we began to move south. The Polk’s had agreed to come with us mostly do to Gorges worries that his wife would be next on the burning list. We were stopped twice on the way out and the answer to the question of why we were leaving was the same both times. We want nothing to do with a town that would kill one of there own because they were different.
As soon as we were out of sight of the town I said my good bye’s and jumped out of the wagon with Scurvy close on my heels. He told me that Laela asked him to make sure I stayed out of trouble after she was gone and he agreed. The trouble I was about to make was worthy trouble so he would help me there.
Once off the wagon I moved farther in to the woods where I had stashed a change of clothing. Clothing that was the genesis of the outfit I now where in my human form and have worn since my days as Shadow Creeper after the Korean War. Though the material has changed from cloth to leather to the nano based material I now ware it was still the same basic outfit. Black pants that are made to fit me in both forms, a gray shirt, black loose fitting boots, a black coat, a black scarf and a long black hooded cape. The scarf and cloak were only with that outfit but everything else stayed.
From there Scurvy and I returned to our house, entering through the back door. From there we began to put my plan into motion. I didn’t want the people to not have a chance to escape the fate I had for them but I wanted those who had been the major players in Laela’s death to pay. For this I would give them a warning and if they didn’t leave the next day they would die. My first stop though was the church.
