"Oh my God… Look what’s happening, Professor!"
“Aaaaaaahhhhhh!” “Professor, come quickly: I…I can’t see my own reflection!”
Professor Stonehead dug into his right side pocket and produced a red laced pouch. He carefully opened it and took out a white pellet which he mashed in his hands and approached Mary. He then sprinkled it over her. A short while later, her reflection re-appeared. Mary felt herself and gazed at the mirror. Once again, she could see her reflection. She walked up to it. “No, Mary! Don’t!” Called out the Professor, but Mary continued and reached out. “Oh my God… Look what’s happening, Professor!” Mary’s arms went straight through the glass. The Professor quickly opened his book, “Revival” and scrolled through it until he arrived at a particular page with what appeared to be an ancient spell. He murmered a few words in some ancient dialect and then reached towards Mary and pulled her back, towards him. He was clearly upset and angry. “How dare you defy my words! Do you know you might have been…” He cut his words short and refrained from continuing. “Listen, let’s just make a move right now.” “No!” Replied Mary. “I beg your pardon; do my ears decieive me!?” Mary stared hard at him. “I’m not going anywhere with you. Not until you tell me exactly what’s happening to me. Now!!!” The Professor stared back at her, meaningfully and said, “Not even if I ask you again to just come along?” Mary nodded in disapproval. The Professor sighed and sat a chair in the room. “Sit beside me, Mary because what I am about to tell you is going to change your life completely.” Mary sat on the bed, facing the Professor. “I want you to just listen to me first; agreed?” “Go on, Professor Stonehead. I’m all ears.” “It’s a long story, but I’ll try and summarise it for you. Firstly, believe it or not, the reason you are seeing so many strange people around you is not because you’re losing your sanity. Quite the contrary. You’re seeing them because you are being drawn, or lured, into another world.” “What!?” Said Mary, defiantly. “This is a really sick joke, Professor.” “Just listen to me, damn it. These people you are seeing are fom another place and they’re calling you to join them.” Mary’s jaw fell and her eyes grew wide. The Professor continued. “There’s one more thing. ”I’m essentially here, Mary, to save your life and it may already be too late. That’s why we must hurry up and locate this place that recurs time to time in messages of blood.” Mary was very quiet for a few moments, allowing it all to penetrate in her mind. “Just supposing…I believed everything you are saying; then exactly who is sending me those messages repeatedly?” Professor Stonehead stood up and walked upto the bedroom window staring out at the countryside view. There was a long and deliberate pause, after which the Professor turned to her and replied, slowly, “That’s exactly why we’re going there, Mary; to find out. And consider it that every passing moment is making your chances to remain alive, less and less. So now that you know enough, I request you to please come along with me.” Mary stood up, without replying and began to follow the Professor out the mansion. At last, their journey was underway…
