A personal narrative that I made in English/language class. I had a big stick fight with some friends one day and had to make a personal narrative out of it.

“Okay,” I said “I’ll go get some longer sticks and you stay here.”

“Yep,” answered Jacob.

I was having a stick fight in the woods with some friends. First I had allied with Jacob. Now I was going to get some longer and stronger sticks to fight with. So I headed out of our base and got a few weapons. Then I returned to our base and dropped off the weapons. After that I armed myself and headed out to see what the other team was doing at their base. But I had made the mistake of attacking alone.

On the way there the other team came out of their base (which was a walled area instead of our open area with a narrow passage to make it hard to get in and out very fast or easily) and chased me. After a while they cornered me. Then I picked up a very long stick that they hadn’t found (or taken) yet and tried to drive them off. While that happened I was calling for Jacob to come and help me escape.

But he never came and I was forced to drop my weapons and run. I wouldn’t have been able to hold them off for as long if I hadn’t found the very long stick and they hadn’t stopped trying to enter in the same entrance (there was a few trees making little slots for them to come through when they cornered me, but they were trying to get through the same one over and over) and advanced any sooner than they had. For some reason when I was attempting to escape they just let me retreat without chasing me at all. It was probably because one of them thought I was going to then return with more weapons or something and had told the rest of them to just let me retreat.

When I had returned to my base I asked Jacob where he was when I called for him.

“I was back here preparing to defend from them if they attacked,” he replied.

“They were all chasing me. I lost all of my weapons when they finally cornered me, but I only got hit once and managed to hit all of them multiple times,” I explained “So we will need to go back and retrieve the lost weapons.”

Next we went to the spot were I had been cornered and looked around for the weapons. They must have thought that they didn’t need them or that the larger sticks would have been too heavy and had discarded all of the weapons into a ditch. I climbed down into the ditch and threw the huge sticks up out of the ditch to Jacob. Then we took the weapons and returned to the base. It was strange how we were winning so far and were outnumbered 3-2. It must have been a lack of their coordination or organization because they rarely attacked with more than 2 of their 3 members. Also half of the time they were all in different locations and could never gang up on us.

Then they attacked our base unsuccessfully about 5 more times and each had about the same results. One or two of them would come in just to be unable to pass the narrow passage of clear land that lead to our base because it would be blocked by me and Jacob with very long and heavy sticks. After that they would try to attack anyways and get hit a couple of times before running back to their base. Sometimes we would chase them and they sometimes drop their weapons.

After a while I got tired of just defending and decided to attack them to see what would happen. The other team was in their base when we got there and I hit them from over their walls with the long stick. It was easy because the long stick let me hit them while they couldn’t me. Then I realized that the team with bigger weapons would almost always win battles. I also figured out that you shouldn’t attack alone because it won’t end very well for you (usually…).
