Emily lives on her own in a cottage and Billie, her dog, is her only companion. She takes him for a walk and Billie keeps pulling into the forest further. There they found a little baby deer. The forester tells Emily not to let the dog into the forest but then he saw why Billie insisted. He takes the little deer home and Emily visits him daily to see how the deer getting on. The deer grows up and the forester makes sure it will go back to life it should have. Emily and the forest getting to know each other more and more.

                                                              BILLIE

“Come on, Billie, let’s go. Aren’t you getting lazy? You know we always going for a walk after breakfast?” Emily told Billie.

Emily has lived in Prim Cottage all her life. She was born there and when her parents died, She stayed on. A neighbour asked her if she would like the little dog because it was the smallest and no good for working on the farm. Billie gave her a lot of company. When the weather was bad Billie did not want to go out. Emily had to do a bit of persuasion to get him on his legs and out of the door.

They walked down the garden path and then turned right towards the open country-side. Billie still pulled more back the more Emily went forward.

“Now, now, Billie, will just stop that nonsense. I know it looks all grey and the path is all wet and muddy. Look, the sun will be coming out in a while. So stop fussing. One would think you weren’t born in the country,” said Emily.

They went along the path which lead through an enormous big cornfield, then through meadows along the river. When they entered the forest, which Emily loved, it felt nippy today after it rained all night. Soon the sun was breaking through and it felt warm again. At the end of the forest the path led down to the river and they crossed a little bridge. They were walking back on the other of the river. The sun was shining brightly now and Billie started running around again.

“Good morning, Emily, have you been for your walk? Hello Billie,” said Ruth, Emily’s next door neighbour.

“Hello Ruth. Yes, we have. How are you today?” Emily replied.

“Oh, not too bad. Still got my athrities,” she said laughing. “I am glad the sun is coming out again. I thought we’re having another dismal day. Anyway I better get going. Everything takes twice as long because of my athrities but never mind. Could be worse. See you, bye.”
