Basil Blue Jay is a detective for the Bird’s Eye View detective agency. Mrs. Sparrow comes to see him about her missing husband. Mr. Sparrow is a faithful, loving family man, who also happens to be a friend to Basil. So, Basil sets out to find his friend, and help ease Mrs. Sparrow’s sorrow.
Basil Blue Jay sat at his desk feet propped up watching the world fly by without a care. From the left flew in a disturbing, downtrodden sight. Mrs. Sarra Sparrow from the neighborhood landed on the edge of the nest looking like a swollen eyed hard night kind of a girl. Basil knew better, and was very interested to find out just what Sarra needed, and what brought her to his office. He was all too eager to help. Sarra always displayed her grandeur. In fact she was one of the best looking Sparrows who could have married anyone. Ron Sparrow, her husband, was a good looking man who worked hard and long at keeping up their nest, and family. On occasion the two would often meet at the neighborhood Fly-Inn to grab a drink and shoot pool. Basil searched his brain and wondered, “When was the last time he had seen Ron? It had been a while, hmm, over a week or was it a couple of days?”
Basil motioned for her to come in and sit, and then he got up and hopped around his desk. “Sarra what can I do for you? What has brought you to my office? Is it Ron or the kids?”
Taking several deep breaths, “It’s Ron. I haven’t seen him in two days. I don’t know what has happened. He didn’t come home last night. I’m so worried.” Tears started flowing down her beak, and she took out her white lace handkerchief and wiped her eyes. “He’s always so predictable, and dependable. He always goes to the fly-in immediately after work, and then comes home. I just don’t know what has happened.” Then Sarra burst into more tears and sobs.
Basil looked at her with kind eyes. “You did the right thing by coming to me. I’ll find out what has become of him. When was the last time you talked to him?”
“He called,” she said between sobs, “yesterday just before he left from work. He wanted to know if I needed anything, before he flew on home. He also told me he was going to stop at the Fly-Inn first, but he had some paperwork to do that was keeping him tied up at the plant.” More tears streaked down her beak, and with a deep breath she finished saying, “He’s always been so faithful, and I’m sure he loved me.” With that said Sarra looked down at the nest floor to regain her composure.
