The world today from a visitor.
Having devised a means of communicating in print, the clever ones of the human race started producing books, which are one of the true joys on earth. Everything which can be spoken can be written, and millions of subjects are addressed. The most popular topics are love and religion, but everything else that the human brain can conjure up has been put down in words. There are hundreds of rubbish books to one treasure unfortunately, but sifting through them is part of the fun. The people on earth have managed to create a crude network of more or less instant communication using machines they call servers and computers. What strange names they come up with! A spin off from this has led to books stored on a gadget for reading on the move, and it joins thousands of pieces of hardware, some of which were developed from the wars that they like so much. It is seen as one of the benefits of war, even if the war is lost!
Oh, well, I can’t ramble on, but believe I owe you a summary of the world or as it is sometimes called, planet earth. Firstly, you would imagine that with all of their intelligence and skill, the humans would have organized a guiding authority, charged with steering matters for the common good. This has not happened, but they have made various efforts which have been a total failure so far. We live on in hope.
Secondly, they have an urgent problem with the growing numbers among them. ( Humans are very good at breeding – see the note on boredom). You would imagine they could put some sort of guidelines or control in place, but that hasn’t happened either.
So at the present moment, the place looks set to end. The thinking ones are always debating how this will come, but very few of them, if any, realize the actual timescale of their own existance! Less than a billionth of a tick of our Cosmos clock, of course. The humans find it hard to get their tiny heads around this. If they don’t destroy themselves, which is a possibility, overbreeding might do it. More likely however, and in the glorious ways of the matter, this stunning earth will naturally transform, and the living beings will be cleaned off. Could be a meteor or two, or frying up from overheating perhaps.
Finally humans are very fond of something called lotteries, and this end will be a lottery to end all lotteries. Namely, which generation happens to be in a conscious state ( alive) when the sudden end arrives.
I hope this report meets with your approval, and that you understand it is written without any bias, and as a completely detached observation. It has to be this way, as although I am temporarily among them, I do not feel any affinity with them whatsoever.
