Darren was learning to juggle! In a bid to make him revise for his exams, Darren’s Dad had locked him in his bedroom on certain nights. So, Darren had bought some skittles and similar juggling tools.
Suddenly there was a blinding white light in the centre of the room. In the centre of that bright glow was Lettoth, that godlike alien he met months ago. How the hell had Darren forgotten him? Quite a mind-wipe; but what did he want?
Lettoth: “What are you doing Darren?”
Darren: “Erm, learning to juggle.”
Lettoth: “You never learn, do you. Life is not going to give you success and progress for nothing. Have you not heard of ‘Work Ethic’? Okay. Let me show you. I will take you along the time line in which you still have that wretched bracelet. One million years into the future.”
Instantly Lettoth and Darren were standing at the edge of the swimming pool area, in Darren’s “old” palace (built by the bracelet). Darren’s friend John staggered over to them.
John: “What you doing here Dazza? Thought you were visiting Andromeda again? Hey, you look differ… (to Lettoth) Who the hell are you?”
Lettoth explained briefly who he was and that this Darren had no bracelet (in another time-line).
John: “Don’t do it mate. Let ‘em have the fracking bracelet. We’ve been all over the Multiverse and done just about everything. We’re bored stupid!”
A few more words were exchanged, then they let John go.
Lettoth: “Good. Now, let’s have a look at your time-line, a million years hence.”
Instantaneously they were in a large playground. Children swarmed everywhere, laughing and chattering. They were surrounded by a paradise parkland: trees, shrubs, flowers… Birdsong was all around them. In the distance they could see great feats of future architecture.
Darren: “Wow!”
Lettoth: “Indeed. See how all is changed. Your race has battled for generations against almost no end of challenges. Through sheer hard work and a little inspiration these people have created utopia.
All this was lost when that rogue let you have that bracelet. You have heard of the apple in the ‘Garden of Eden’… Being all powerful and all-knowing would deprive you of all your achievement!”
Without transition they were back in Darren’s bedroom.
Lettoth: “Lesson over, Darren. Now stop messing about and get on with your revision!”
And Lettoth vanished.
