A short piece about brotherhood and how imporant it is to keep your sibling(s) close to you, for life is long and hard, and you’ll find comfort in them when you need it most.
In this life we’re gifted, along with our parents, with siblings. Some of us may hate our siblings, some may love them to death, some may never want to see them again but at the end of the day we we’re paired up for a reason.
I have heard stories and have friends who have some terrible memories with their long lost siblings and I have friends who have very good relationships with their siblings. Either way I feel it’s a duty to either distance the gap between you and your sibling or hold on tight as to never let go. The love for my brother is something I never really understood until I began my twenties and I bet in time it will grow much more. There is a lot ahead of us but the beauty of that is that it is ahead of us, together. Whatever we come to face with our parents or cousins or aunts or auncles we will face it together. We definitely won’t always agree, we will have different likes and dislikes, and we will see a lot of things through very different eyes, but we will always have a bond that you can’t obtain with others.
Sure you meet friends in life, friends with common interests and you grow together and you do great things together, raise families together, work together, form a type of brother friendship together. At the end of the day though they don’t share what you have with your actual brother. Your actual brother may not know you as well, especially when your young, but as you grow together you grow closer. My father told me he wasn’t close with his brother until they got around their 50s and 60s. So much happens that is unforseen but in the end, if you chose to live a life of no regrets, and it all forms together, I believe it will be something truly beautiful. I think that is why like socrates I enjoy talking to elders more then most other people, I enjoy hearing their wisdom spill into my mind and then to watch where my mind runs with it. I believe you can learn much from those coming towards the sunset of their life, but a brother is someone who will watch the sunset with you so keep them close to your heart. That’s my advice.
