There was a little girl who loved going to school
She had lots of friends and she was very smart too
But every year, when school ended, she became very sad
She knew she would miss her friends and that made her feel so bad

So one summer, as sadness began for this little girl
Something happened that would change her whole world
A beautiful Butterfly appeared on her cheek
That day, she learned that Butterfly’s can speak

The Little Girl asked the Butterfly:
Butterfly, Butterfly
How is it you speak
I thought just humans
Had voices so sweet

The Butterfly replied:
Little girl, little girl
I do not know
But if I did
I’d tell you so

The Little girl told the Butterfly:
Butterfly, Butterfly
Go away
My joy is gone
And I’m not okay

And the Butterfly asked:
Little girl, little girl
Why so sad
I’d like to help
Strong wings I have

The little girl dared the butterfly:
Butterfly, butterfly
If you can fly
Pick me up
And let me ride

The butterfly replied:
Little girl, little girl
Come, let’s go
We’ll reach the sky
On clouds we’ll float

And so together 
Up high, they flew
On the back of the Butterfly 
was Little Girl, blue

Above the clouds
On Butterfly wings
She never thought
She’d see such things

Back down they went
To dear old earth
Both full of joy
So happy they were

Smiling, she asked the butterfly:
Butterfly, butterfly
Why did you come?
When I was sad
And all alone

And the Butterfly said to the Little Girl

Little girl, little girl
I’ll tell you why
I’m here to make
Sad little girls’ smile

Well, now you know
Butterflies can speak
To little girls, sad
And little girls, weak

And when you need
Some company
Just reach up, reach up
And touch your cheek

I’ll be right there
We’ll take a ride
way up high we’ll go
above the clouds in the sky

So once in a while, she may feel sad
But she knows what makes her glad
All she has to do is touch her cheek
Yes, she knows, Butterflies can speak
